Don’t people cheer loudest when an athlete exerts supreme effort to make fantastic jump and score a crucial point for his team?
It’s an enthusiasm that is so hard to explain and compare: hearts are pumping, breath is held, and wishes are made.
It’s possible, more so now than 50 years ago, because of vertical leap training.
If athletes want to know how to increase their vertical leap, the best route would be to ask for help.
Most coaches are aware of what needs to be done to gain an extra inch or two in an athletes jump, and none of them include jumping.
The trick in being able to know how to jump higher is to prepare the body for the action.
From bending your knees and jumping to going full circle and landing on bent knees is part of what vertical leap training is.
Here are some jump exercises you can try:
Deep Knee Bends:
Start from standing position.
Slowly lower your body from the knees.
Be sure to keep your back as straight as possible.
You will not be able to reach the ground because it’s physically impossible, but try to get as low as possible, then go back to first position.
You will need to repeat this at least 20 times.
The purpose of this part of vertical leap training is to improve your knee strength and leg muscles.
The first time you do this drill, expect it to ache a bit the next day. That’s normal.
You can try some creativity with this vertical leap training drill by jumping up when you get to the lowest point.
Before jumping up, take a deep breath, and be sure to land on bended knees.
Toe Raises:
This is like going on tip toes for 30 reps.
This vertical leap training exercise will help improve your balance.
Some people tend to land on their toes instead of putting the entire weight evenly on the feet.
As such, toes are especially vulnerable to fracture and sprains.
You can also do the toe raises while holding weights.
Just make sure the weights are evenly distributed and easily managed.
The point of this drill is to simulate the force felt upon landing.
